HongKong Market Open to all (Online-Internet) Clients

  1. How can I start to trade in Hong Kong Market (HKSE)? 

    Clients can choose to open a Phillip Cash Management Account, margin or custodian account with an initial sum of S$1000.

  2. What is the trading mode of POEMS HK market? 

    The trading mode of POEMS HK market is Scripless.

  3. What is the trading hours for the HK Markets? 

    Trading is conducted on Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) at the following times (According to Singapore time):

    Auction Session  
    Pre-opening Session 09:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
    Closing Auction Session 04:00 p.m. to 04:10 p.m. (normal day trading), or 
    12:30 p.m. to 12:40 p.m. (half day trading) 
    Continuous Trading Session  
    Morning Session 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    Extended Morning Session 12:30 p.m. to 02:30 p.m. 
    Afternoon Session 02:30 p.m. to 04:00 p.m.
    Non-Cancel Period  
    Normal Day Trading 04:08 p.m. to 04:10 p.m.
    Half Day Trading 12:38 p.m. to 12:40 p.m.


    There is no Extended Morning Session and Afternoon Session on the following days: 

    Eve of Lunar New Year 
    Eve of Christmas 
    Eve of New Year 

    There will be no Extended Morning Session if there is no Morning Session. There will be no trading on public holiday and upon typhoons and black rainstorm warnings.

  4. What are the types of order available for HK trading? 

    All orders submitted are limit orders (ie. Orders can be executed at a price which will be the same as or better than the order price)

  5. What are the types of counters available for HK trading? 

    H-Shares 
    H-share companies refer to companies incorporated in the People's Republic of China and approved by the China Securities Regulatory Commission for a listing in Hong Kong. Shares of Chinese state enterprises are listed on SEHK, subscribed for and traded in Hong Kong dollars.


    Blue Chips
    Shares of established companies that have large capitalization and a track record of high profitability.


    Red Chips
    A red chip company is a company that has at least 35% shareholding held in aggregate by Mainland China entities, and/or indirectly through companies controlled by them, with the Mainland China entities being the single largest shareholders in aggregate terms.


    Warrants
    There are more than 200 warrants in the Hong Kong Securities market either issued by the company itself or by an independent company, often an investment banker (like Merrill Lynch, Stanley Morgan, Peregrine and Jardine Fleming etc.) 

  6. How can I place my HK trades? 

    You can choose to place orders for your HK trades online with POEMS or by calling your Trading Representative (e.g. Dealer / Remisier).

  7. What is the minimum bid size for trading?

  8. How can I check the status of my orders if I place my orders with POEMS? 

    After submission of orders, you may proceed to [Order Status] to check if the orders are on queue, done, or rejected. All orders will be issued with an order number for easy tracking. 

  9. Can I withdraw my orders? 

    You may withdraw any orders under processing if you had placed your trading orders with POEMS. Alternatively, you may contact your Trading Representative (e.g. Dealer or Remisier) for assistance. 

  10. Why are my orders rejected? 

    It could be due to the following reasons:
    • Incorrect price spread (please refer to minimum bid size table ) 

    • Price range beyond 20 bids 

    • Order quantity exceeded 600 lots 

    • Trading limit exceeded 

    • Short sell 

    • Stock suspended 

  11. What is the validity period for my orders? 

    All orders submitted are only valid for one trading day. Orders not done will be cancelled at the end of each trading day. 

  12. Can I perform "contra trades" and "short selling" for HK stocks? 

    Contra is allowed while short selling is not allowed for HK trading. 

  13. Will I be able to 'Amalgamate' my HKSE Trades? 

    Yes you can "amalgamate" your HK trades that are done on the same day.

  14. Is odd lot trading available in HK Market? 

    Yes, you have to contact your remisiers/dealers to place the orders. Odd lots submitted through POEMS will be rejected.

  15. How will I know how much my HK trading limit is set at? 

    You trading limit is set such as a combination-trading limit of available markets with POEMS. There is no separate trading limit for HK Market.

  16. How can I increase my Trading Limit? 

    You may request an increase in trading limit by calling your Trading Representative (e.g. Dealer / Remisier).

  17. May I trade HK Shares that I purchased through other securities firm? 

    Yes, you may. However, you are required to transfer your scripless share holdings to Phillip Securities Pte Ltd before you can commence to trade through POEMS.

  18. What are the procedures to do Share Transfer? 

    Client can write to their broking house to give instruction for transfer the shares to Phillip Securities Pte Ltd and must cc (send) a copy to Phillip Securities Pte Ltd, attention to Foreign Shares Transfer Department. Please also indicate the contact person's ( from the other broking house) name and contact number.

    Please note that clients are required to buy back their shares to cover the sale position if the physical shares deposited are subsequently found to be not good for deposition.
