Singapore stocks ended higher on Wednesday (Jun 17). The local benchmark gained 1.2 per cent or 59.60 points to end the day at 5,176.46. Across the broader market, gainers outnumbered losers 349 to 250, after 1.2 billion securities worth S$2.2 billion changed hands.
US stocks fell on Wednesday, while Treasury yields surged, as investors grew uncertain over the path of monetary policy after several Federal Reserve officials indicated there could be a rate hike this year to tamp down on inflation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 507.12 points, or 0.98%, after earlier hitting a fresh all-time intraday record, the index’s third consecutive high. The 30-stock index closed at 51,492.55. The S&P 500 lost 1.21% and ended at 7,420.10. The Nasdaq Composite shed 1.34% and settled at 26,021.66.

Technology systems integrator CSE Global on Tuesday (Jun 16) disclosed the exchanges between board chairman Eugene Lai and former independent director Tan Chian Khong over corporate governance, board renewal and management oversight that led to Tan’s resignation on Jun 2.
Asset manager Keppel said on Wednesday (Jun 17) that it has secured a deal for the fourth out of five fibre pairs on the Bifrost Cable System. The agreement was inked via an indefeasible right of use (IRU) contract through Keppel’s connectivity division. An IRU is a long-term, irrevocable contract that grants a customer exclusive and secure access to a portion of network capacity.
Centurion Corporation on Wednesday (Jun 17) said it has acquired a 25 per cent equity interest in a purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development in Perth for A$250,000 (S$225,475). The property at 55-57 Fairway, Crawley, is set to have around 182 studios.

UniQure said it plans to seek approval for its experimental gene therapy for Huntington’s disease. The announcement comes months after UniQure became embroiled in a public debate with FDA leaders over the clinical trial data supporting its application. UniQure became a poster child for apparent reversals under former FDA Commissioner Marty Makary that hit rare disease drugmakers especially hard.
Britain’s competition watchdog ordered Google to provide greater transparency on how its search rankings work, part of new rules aimed at securing a fairer deal for businesses and addressing concerns over the US tech giant’s dominance in the sector.
JetBlue is planning to cut its flight attendant base at Newark Liberty International Airport and tech operations bases there and at LaGuardia Airport in New York. The carrier is increasing service in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, its profitable hub where it’s the No. 1 carrier. JetBlue has complained about the high costs of operating at airports, including LaGuardia, which was recently revamped.
Amazon has been looking to catch up to OpenAI and Anthropic on frontier AI with its Nova models. AI chief Peter DeSantis said he hopes Amazon is in the conversation about leading models in the coming year. Amazon is looking to build on its AI strategy, which includes the development of custom chips.
Carvana, which is known for selling used cars, is using a location in Dallas to test its journey into new vehicle sales. The Dallas location doesn’t work like a normal franchised dealership that sells new cars, but rather has test-drive areas and a playground for consumers to decide what vehicle they would like to buy through Carvana’s online platforms.
Apple Inc. is preparing a second-generation iPhone Air for spring 2027, aiming to boost the appeal of the device. Current prototypes of the new model add a second rear camera for ultrawide-angle photography and Apple is working to improve the battery life. The updated Air will be powered by a version of the A20 Pro processor and Apple sees the camera system and battery life as two of the biggest opportunities for improving the Air.
